The American Gaming Association now believes that legalized online gambling is viable as long as there are regulations in place that would protect consumers. This comes after years of taking a neutral stance on this issue. As you know, there are two key bills currently pending that would repeal the UIGEA Law. Recently, we reported that the UIGEA LAW will take effect June 1, 2010. The American Gaming Association has been studying this issue over the past few years. Its main concern was “whether the technology was available to regulate the activity and safeguard against money laundering and underage gambling; whether Internet gaming would cannibalize the commercial casino industry; and whether federal or state regulation was a better process.” It was determined that the systems now in place can regulate online gaming provided there is transparency and oversight that would protect those who gamble online.
